CRYSTAL RUN HEALTHCARE’S CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, MICHELLE A. KOURY, MD, APPOINTED AS CAO/COO CHAIR ELECT BY AMGA

Middletown, NY – July 12, 2010- Crystal Run Healthcare is pleased to announce that its Chief Operating Officer, Michelle A. Koury, MD has been appointed by the American Medical Group Association’s (AMGA) Board of Directors as the CAO/COO Chair elect, effective July 1, 2010.

Dr. Koury will serve one year in this role along with current Council Chair, Christopher Sclafani, after which she will begin a two-year term as Chair on July 1, 2011.

The CAO/COO Council is a trusted network of Chief Administrative Officers and Chief Operating Officers who provide functional and operational leadership through the development and implementation of policies and practices essential to the success of medical groups in carrying out their mission. Members of the Council are committed to sharing ideas, strategies and information with colleagues facing similar challenges and to building stronger professional connections with their peers in similar positions and organizations. Council members must be willing to actively work together on mutually beneficial studies, projects or other activities, which can accelerate collective learning, reduce the costs of innovation and discovery, and facilitate the transfer of new knowledge to the larger community of AMGA members.

In 2009, Dr. Koury, along with Director of Quality and Patient Safety, Betty Jessup, RN, BSN, co-wrote an article on Joint Commission Accreditation, which was selected for publication in the June 2009 issue of the AMGA's Group Practice Journal. She has presented at the annual conferences of AMGA as well as the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) – which feature top-notch presenters from America’s leading healthcare organizations – and has been an active member on both councils.

Dr. Koury is a cum laude graduate of Rutgers University and attended medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her training in internal medicine at New England Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine.

A board certified Internist, Dr. Koury joined the practice in 1996 after which she earned her certification as a medical director for long-term care - one of only two in Orange County at the time. Dr. Koury was appointed as the practice’s first Medical Director of Crystal Run Healthcare in 2002 and served in that role for six years until being appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2008.
