Crystal Run Healthcare Hosts Blood Drive in Monroe

News/Releases

Monroe, N.Y. – JULY 24, 2018 - Crystal Run Healthcare hosted a local blood drive on July 10th at the Practice’s Monroe location to support the New York Blood Center (NYBC). 27 units of blood were collected from donors in an ongoing effort to address the critical blood shortage in the Hudson Valley. The recent blood drive marks the third annual blood drive held in Monroe and the second for Crystal Run this year, bringing the total number of units donated in 2018 to 47.

“Blood drives have been an important focus at Crystal Run for many years.  Team Monroe has held three blood drives, open to staff and the community, since we opened our building in late 2016,” said Cynthia Mento, Director of Operations at Crystal Run Healthcare. “We understand two facts about blood donation. The first - every two seconds someone in the United States needs to be given blood. The second - each year, 38% of Americans are eligible to give blood – but only 10% do so, most of those being college students, who are not in school during the summer months, so shortages arise.  As employees in the health field, we realize the importance of having local blood supplies.  The Monroe Wellness Chapter of Crystal Run plans to continue this worthwhile lifesaving event annually.”

In 2017, employees of Crystal Run along with some community members donated a total of 135 pints of blood to the NYBC and the Red Cross through six blood drives across multiple practice locations. Crystal Run Healthcare supports organizations like the NYBC to help the 4.5 million Americans each year that need blood transfusions. Started 54 years ago, NYBC is one of the largest community-based non-profit blood collection and distribution organizations in the U.S. They serve more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area.
