What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
I have wanted to be a nurse all my life. As I went through my Nursing Program, I wanted to strive for more - Nurse Practitioner. After working as an RN for 10 years, I went back to school when my daughter started Kindergarten. Working full-time, being a mom and a wife, as well as going on to get my Masters in Nursing for my NP was challenging, but the best decision I have ever made!
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
Endocrinology is a change in my Nurse Practitioner career. Coming from the surgical arena, Ortho and general, I wanted to explore an area of medicine that has great interest to me not only professionally, but also personally. I enjoy the challenge of the diabetic and thyroid patient. Helping the patient to comply to a healthier life style so that they can get their co-morbities under control is rewarding to me.
How do you connect with your patients?
I like to make each visit personal. We all have very busy lives, but the time period in the office is about the patient as an individual & what we can do to improve their health. When making a plan of action I include the patient in the goals and treatment plan, so that they will have the greatest compliance with the best outcome.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
Horseback riding (English Saddle), Quilting, Biking, Hiking/walking my dogs (Rottie & Cocker Spaniel), Snowmobiling, Going to the Adirondacks
What is your advice for your patients?
1. Take time for yourself! If you do not keep a healthy you, you can not care for others. 2. If your treatment plan is not working or if there is a change in circumstances, call the office so we can create a plan that works for you.
