What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
It was my love for the sciences, in particular the human body and how it functions, that sparked my interest in the medical field. That, in combination with my desire to help others led me to want to become a healthcare provider. I determined this desire to help others medically during a medical missions trip to Costa Rica and Panama. In addition, I felt that a career as a PA combined these two loves of mine while also giving me the flexibility in a career that I desire.
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
There are numerous experiences in my younger life that led me to pursue a career in dermatology. Ultimately, I love the ability to treat a condition that reflects a person's outward appearance while simultaneously helping to heal their inward thoughts of themselves. In addition, I love the procedural aspects of dermatology.
How do you connect with your patients?
I try to connect with my patients through empathy, honesty, and compassion. I always try to remember the quote by Maya Angelou when caring for patients, ...people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, and traveling abroad. I hope to one day become fluent in Spanish and go on another medical mission trip to a Spanish-speaking country.
What is your advice for your patients?
Take care of your body, and your body, for the most part, will take care of you.
