What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
I think I've always wanted to be a doctor. Growing up I heard stories of my grandfather who worked for decades in rural Cameroon where he was the only doctor for miles. He was a real inspiration, and his exemplary dedication, ingenuity, and love for his patients are tenets I believe all physicians should live by.
How do you connect with your patients?
I try very hard to not just associate my patients with their disease. Rather, I try to associate them with their personality, wishes, goals, and life outside the hospital. In doing so, I hopefully do not fall into the trap of seeing them only as patients but as people, just like myself.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking and hiking. I'm interested in taking up rock climbing and photography.
What is your advice for your patients?
Be your own advocate. Take owenership of your health and/or illness.
