What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
In high school I volunteered at a Deaf Preschool every day. I knew back then I wanted to work with the hard of hearing. Being around those children everyday really made an impact on my life and I have not forgotten them.
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
I really love getting a patient into hearing aids for the first time. They come back for follow-up appointments so amazed by all they heard and what they were missing. I love being a part of that.
How do you connect with your patients?
I have a very easy going personality and connect easily with others. I try to be as warm and friendly as I would want a provider to be with me.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
In the last several months, I have gotten married, bought a home, and a puppy. All of that keeps me pretty busy. Other activities I enjoy are baking, cake decorating (I used to teach classes), crocheting, reading and watching some TV.
What is your advice for your patients?
When appropriate, I always recommend a hearing aid evaluation. Even if the patient seems reluctant, an information session is always a good idea.
