Our licensed Clinical Psychologists, Heather Carpenter-Sarmiento, Psy.D, Maria L. (Marilou) Gonzales PsyD, and Jordana Nejman-Muhlmeister, PsyD conduct psychological evaluations with diagnostic assessments, and provide psychotherapy.  Dr. Carpenter-Sarmiento works primarily with adults dealing with various life stressors, diagnoses, and emotional distress; while Dr. Gonzales primarily works with children, adolescents, and young adults on a range of concerns from primary to complex medical problems.

Dr. Carpenter-Sarmiento has extensive training in clinical psychology and sees and treats patients with a wide range of problems including anxiety disorders (GAD, Panic Disorder, Social and other Phobias, and OCD), depression, sleep disorders, relationship difficulties, and stress-related medical conditions.  She has a Psy.D in Clinical Psychology and is licensed through the State of New York.   

Dr. Gonzales has extensive training in clinical psychology and sees and treats children, adolecents and young adults with a wide range of concerns from primary to complex medical problems; work-life balance, loss and grief, sadness, depression and mood disorders, anxiety and stress, relationship and family conflicts; and Life-Stage Transitions.  She has a Psy.D in Clinical Psychology and is licensed through the State of New York.   

 

What to Expect

Initial Appointment: One hour spent with the clinical psychologist gathering information and formulating a treatment plan. You may come alone, with your spouse/partner, or with family members.

Follow-up Appointment: 30 or 45 minutes spent with the clinical psychologist. Follow-up appointments vary depending on an individual’s needs and treatment goals. The clinical psychologist will assist individuals with their goals, overcoming emotional distress and increasing quality of life.

Patients not seen by the Psychologist:

Individuals affected by substance use, traumatic brain injuries, severe intellectual disability; or seeking forensic evaluations, custody evaluations, disability evaluations, workers compensation evaluations, surgical clearance evaluations, DSS evaluations, housing evaluations, case management, CPS evaluations, and any mandated court evaluations.

 

Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)

LCSWs conduct psychosocial assessments, diagnostic assessments, and psychotherapy. They are trained and able to work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing life stressors or emotional distress. Clinical social workers help individuals improve their quality of life by helping them overcome barriers and reach their goals. They provide individual, family and group therapy. They utilize different treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Play therapy depending on the needs of an individual.
