What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
My sister adopted her son from Liberia with a terrible set of medical issues that required multiple surgeries and many months in the hospital. Her surgical PA got her through it and was her greatest support while she lived far from family.
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
I'm excited to be in Urgent Care because it includes all ages and any medical condition at all could walk through the door.
How do you connect with your patients?
I take a moment to ask how their illness/medical issue is affecting them, and give validation to their concerns, even if there is little to do for them. I also am good at explaining things in layman's terms, and I make sure patients understand.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
Music - I have a degree in classical piano performance. I love seeing live music from folk to reggae. I am an obsessive gardener as well.
What is your advice for your patients?
I tell them they know themselves better than anyone, so they know when something is wrong, and on the same note, it's their responsibility to do what it takes to be well. We can only do so much at one appointment.
