What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
As a child, my fascination with nature led to my interest in biology, the science of life, and motivated me to learn as much as I could. I later enjoyed working as a scientist and a teacher until I eventually found a way to combine my loves of science and teaching with my desire to help kids. I became a pediatrician!
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
I love working with kids; they inspire me every day. I am motivated by the immense potential, as a pediatrician, to have a lasting positive influence on the life of a child.
How do you connect with your patients?
I have always felt a natural connection to children, which is part of why I chose a career in pediatrics. I strive to create an atmosphere of open and honest communication, in which kids and their parents feel comfortable speaking with me about themselves. I see it as a privilege that patients and their families confide in me about their health and daily lives.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
I love being outside, so hiking, swimming, gardening, taking long walks in the city, and stargazing are some of my favorite things to do. I like to cook and I especially enjoy sharing meals with family and friends. I love to travel anywhere and everywhere and to take lots of photographs to remind me of places I have visited.
What is your advice for your patients?
I aim to help patients and their families develop healthy lifestyle habits and I tailor my advice to the individual. Examples include advice about development, nutrition, exercise, sleep, safety, and spending time in nature.
