Jason K. Abfier, MD, MS
When did you start working at Crystal Run Healthcare?
After practicing Gastroenterology in a small practice for the previous 10 years, I decided to make a career change and joined Crystal Run in August of 2016.
What made you choose a career in this field?
I have always felt the need to help others in a meaningful way. I knew that becoming a doctor was the best career path to accomplish this goal while directly impacting people's lives in a positive way. With respect to Gastroenterology, I love the cerebral aspects of GI, the physiology of the gut, and the ability to directly impact disease through endoscopic intervention. These factors are what initially drew me to Gastroenterology, but also what I continue to love about Gastroenterology as a specialty.
What is your biggest accomplishment within your career thus far?
The biggest accomplishment thus far is the continued positive feedback I receive from my patients and colleagues. Being referred new patients by other providers as well by existing patients is the biggest compliment I could receive. While awards and other forms of recognition might be nice, what I value most is the trust people place in me.
What is your favorite part about working at Crystal Run Healthcare?
My favorite part of working at Crystal Run is the team-oriented, multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Everyone is committed to providing state-of-the art care, which is not limited to the treatment of illness itself, but also includes disease prevention and patient education.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. Whether we are skiing, going to the beach, hiking at Pyramid Mountain near our house, biking in the neighborhood or having a quiet night at home playing board games, I am at my happiest when my wife and I get to spend quality time with our 2 amazing boys. In addition to family time, I enjoy playing basketball and softball, swimming, reading, watching classic 80's movies, listening to music and spending time with friends.
