About Me

What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?

As far back as I can remember I have wanted to become a physician. My favorite subject in school was always science and I felt a calling to help people so I was able to combine both of these interests. I also loved my own pediatrician Dr. Adamson who always treated me with kindness and care.

What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?

Pediatrics is an amazing specialty, you are able to watch a child grow, develop and change over many years. You are not only a part of your patient’s life but of an entire family often including extended family and grandparents. I believe that when most people think of their doctor they will think of their pediatrician. This will be the doctor that a child will have been with for the longest time, if they stay with their pediatrician it could be for 21 to 22 years. I love this about pediatrics - the long-term relationship you can have with your patient. I am sure that I was influenced to choose the specialty by my own pediatrician and the pediatricians I was able to engage with during medical school.

How do you connect with your patients?

I always try to meet people where they are. I am a people person I love learning about who they are. There is always something that is relatable and I don’t mind sharing of myself in order to get to know someone better. Another way I will connect is through humor, this is a good way to open a conversation and help a child relax when they are scared and nervous. People including children want to be heard, you need to make them feel that you understand them and that you are listening.

What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?

I love to travel, I have been blessed with some wonderful experiences including Egypt to see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and many more antiquities. I look forward to being able to see more of our amazing planet.
I also enjoy crafting including painting, woodworking, and furniture refinishing, and have been known to make extraordinary one-of-a-kind cards for friends and family. Reading and exercise also round out my interests. I love my Peloton bike and try to get in a ride as much as possible. Of course, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children.

What is your advice for your patients?

I have a few mantras over the years, one of them that I often say to parents is:
“Never let guilt be your operating system when it comes to parenting.” Parents today sometimes have a hard time and don’t often have extended family to help out. I find that they need a lot of support and encouragement that they are enough and are doing a great job with their children.
