Nicholas Batson, MD, Psychiatry, Behavioral Health

When did you start working at Crystal Run Healthcare?

Six years ago Lisa, the other Dr. Batson, and I were in the area visiting family and decided to see if Crystal Run was hiring Psychiatrists. We dropped in for an interview and made our decision that day in the parking lot of the 95 building that we wanted to continue our careers at Crystal Run.

What made you choose a career in this field?

Psychiatry is a field in medicine that helps patients and families with their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Understanding how people think and interact with the world is fascinating to me. Helping patients in an acute crisis and assisting them in achieving their long term goals through a variety of treatments is what I love about Psychiatry.

What is your biggest accomplishment within your career thus far?

Working in healthcare is challenging, stressful, and sometimes our goals are not always clearly defined. Success in what we do can be quantified in a variety of ways.  What I value the most is when a patient no longer suffers or their quality of life has improved after we have worked together as a team. Success is when a patient and their family says thank you.

What is your favorite part about working at Crystal Run Healthcare?

Being part of an integrated care setting for an organization that is striving to achieve the highest quality care for our patients.

What do you like to do outside of work?

We have two boys at home, a 3 year old and a 3 month old, so the majority of my time is spent with family.   Our oldest son, Max, has a great motto for enjoying life “No School. No Work. PLAY!”
