What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?

After landing a job as an emergency room technician, I started to pay attention to how nurses and doctors cared for patients, providing treatment that many times resulted in immediate relief of symptoms. I felt inspired to pursue a nursing career and subsequently become a nurse practitioner to gain the knowledge that allows me to provide relief and comfort to my patients during difficult times.

What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?

I love to be able to educate my patients about lifestyle choices. My interest in gastrointestinal diseases started during my time as an endoscopy nurse where I was exposed to some of the conditions, diagnostic, and treatment procedures. Most importantly, my own personal and family history of gastrointestinal conditions helps me have a deeper understanding that I can utilize to provide better care to my patients.

How do you connect with your patients?

I believe listening to the patients is essential to develop a good patient-provider relationship. I empathize with my patients and provide a non-judgmental, comfortable environment for them to express themselves.

What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?

I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, listening to my favorite podcasts, and dining experiences.

What is your advice for your patients?

I encourage my patients to follow a healthy lifestyle because in many situations, conditions can be treated by modifying simple behaviors which can potentially prolong life.
