What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?

My first job in high school was a nursing assistant at a local nursing home.  It was that job that encouraged me to go to nursing school and with each subsequent role in health care, I knew I wanted to learn more, do more and help more people. 

What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?

I believe that the field of oncology/palliative care is unique because there is no other specialty where there is such a bond and trusting relationship that is formed between patient and caregiver.  My field chose me and I love it. 

How do you connect with your patients?

I try to be available to my patients and provide empathy, through my own personal/family experiences. 

What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?

I enjoy reading (James Patterson), playing computer games and spending time with my family.

What is your advice for your patients?

I always tell my patients - stay positive and never give up!
